Will Super Volcanoes Wipe Us Out?

Volcanoes are horrific.

Erupting lava, ash and smoke, and toxic gases pose a grave threat to surrounding life and beyond.

Super Volcanoes are even worse, posing an extinction level threat. According to this article, previously erupted volcanoes are refilling.

They exist all over the world, from Yellowstone in the United States to Toba in Indonesia to Kikai in Japan.

While we don’t generally discuss potential disasters, the threat of erupting volcanoes is far more likely than our sun going nova. Will humanity fare any better, though?

The impact of ash and gasses spreading throughout the atmosphere will have a devastating impact on the environment all over the world, not just in the immediate area of the eruption. The larger the eruption, the worse it will be everywhere.

Dinosaur extinction is widely believed to be from an asteroid impact, but a super volcano eruption is another compelling theory. Modern humans would likely save ourselves through technology and mass migrations with a radical shift in survival focus.

The raw truth is although we continue to study the world around and beneath us, we still don’t understand how things work to effectively predict or protect ourselves. Humans have only been around for a short time in comparison to other species, most of whom no longer exist.
