7 Senses May be Key to Memory
What is the secret to memory?
According to this article, memory depends on the body’s senses and 7 is the target number for optimal recollection.
Theories aside, what other senses are they referring to since we only have five – sound, sight, touch, smell, and taste?
The article suggests humans could evolve to add additional senses, such as a perception of radiation and magnetism. My imagination reaches out to ESP – extra sensory perception – such as telepathy or intuition. Some have these abilities today although they are not mainstream or, dare I say, fully developed.
Straying away from the topic of memory for a moment, why shouldn’t we develop additional senses? I believe they are available but as unknown to us right now as sight to a blind person or hearing to a deaf person. Surely our minds can be trained to evolve to handle higher abilities, and if that helps with memory at the same time, all the better!
What really captures my interest is the linkage between our senses and memory, and the replication of it into AI models. We are literally building algorithms capable of memory–and from that memory comes the ability to truly learn. If AI can actually think and remember mistakes so it doesn’t repeat them, how close to replicating actual human level intelligence have we come?
And perhaps even exceed?
Please comment below with your thoughts on human memory and our senses, and the potential to instill these into AI.
