Farming vs. Foraging: Progression of Human Evolution

The wheel of human progression never stops.
Perhaps it has slowed during some of the more difficult time periods, but here we are today moving forward stronger – and more technically savvy – than ever before.
When you look back at how far we’ve come, it can only fill you with excitement at what lies ahead. For instance, I found this article an interesting read about how early Andean people made a decision to farm instead of forage without the influence of crisis as previously theorized.
The significance of farming was a commitment to one area of residency and in return the farmers were freed from the time-consuming tasks of searching for food. Not to downplay how much work goes into farming, but it allowed people to prepare and be ready to sustain themselves instead of always wondering where their next meal was coming from.
This in turn freed up their time to focus on other things, and we went on to build cities and fly into space. Well, eventually, but it started by letting humankind stop and think instead of running to survive.
So fast forward to modern times where we not only have supermarkets to shop at instead of farming ourselves, but we can now have groceries delivered right to our doors.
My only question is are we doing something worthwhile with all that extra time?
Do you think we’re spending our free time wisely or throwing it away? Please comment below!
