When Will We Know the Truth about Mars?

Goddard Interns Experience a Little Mars on Earth

There are many unanswered questions about the “Red Planet” and a lot of speculation.

  • Is there or has there ever been life on Mars?
  • When will we send humans to Mars?
  • Where does Mars get its red hue from?

For the last question scientists may have an answer. The article goes into detail but mentions the specific shade of red may have origins from water. There are other factors that indicate Mars was more than a dry, barren rock. We all know with water comes life.

This takes us back to my first point. Has there ever been life on Mars? Will we uncover those secrets as we explore further, or have they vanished into the dust?

Does life exist today, adapting to the waterless conditions perhaps by migrating beneath the dry, dusty surface?

The rover does an amazing job of driving about while taking pictures and collecting samples (to be collected on a future mission) but until we have boots on the ground – literally – I feel we will not find any clear answers. Unless, of course, there is life and they show themselves to the rover.

It is short-sighted to discard the possibility of intelligent life so close “and yet so far” all of this time. Science fiction has entertained this notion for many years, imagining all kinds of scenarios from Earth invasions to peaceful neighbors. I would really like to know one way or the other if life exists, or if it ever did.
