5.0 out of 5 stars A great start to a new series! Loved the worldbuilding! Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2022
This was an amazing book! It begins with our protagonist, Hofen, living with his mother and stepfather. His father had died several years prior and his mother had remarried, though his stepfather was abusive and the threat to Hofen was growing as he did. Though guilds in this world do not take apprentices until they are 13 years of age, it is agreed that Hofen will live with the peacekeepers in their guild until he comes of age to join the guild and officially become an apprentice. Because of his younger age, Hofen is an immediate target of bullies, and he struggles with the difficulty that brings during his year living at the guild before he is allowed to become an apprentice.
The worldbuilding in this book is really good, with little bits of information being provided as it pertains to what is happening in the story without bogging the reader down in with lots of information that will just get forgotten. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series – especially after that ending. There were several smaller plotlines that were resolved, but in such a way that the resolution only raised many more questions, so we know that those plotlines will be revisited as the series continues.

Sword and Sorcery at its finest! On sale for only $1.99 from June 10 through June 14. (Regularly $5.99!)
Can a knight, a warrior, and a fiesty runaway return to Greymark before the queen dies?
“…an “Old School” swords and sorcery that I have not seen in a long time.”
Aimie, a naïve but feisty dreamer struggling to escape the toil of her parents’ tavern, convinces Connell, an honorable Greymark Knight, to escort her on a long journey. Danger confronts them at every turn, from brutal thieves, a ghostly wight, and vicious, blood-thirsty assassins, to irrefutable proof that Mythikal creatures and old magik are real. These are only minor problems compared to what’s brewing back at Greymark, where an army of stone-skinned trolls have enslaved Connell’s people in preparation for a full-scale invasion. Their end game? Human domination—or utter destruction.
Mythikal Magik is a sprawling, epic tale full of everything fantasy lovers enjoy most: magik and mayhem, swords and sorcery, heroes and villains, exotic creatures, and a touch of romance.

Aldrea, the feisty daughter of a Quenterian scientist, agrees to accompany her parents on a routine mission with mixed emotions. It was better than another resort vacation, but lacks the adventure and excitement she craves.
So when her father is taken prisoner by a deranged Radical agent on a deserted planet, Aldrea doesn’t think twice–she goes after them.
But time is running out. With the greatest discovery in Quenterian history in the balance, Aldrea must rescue herself first before the prize they seek kills them all.
